Families vital for schools

Failure of urban children to be well-educated has gotten a lot of press lately. The blame for this has been passed about in a multitude of directions.

Very little has been said about the important responsibility of the family. A child should be taught at home about the value of education and instilled with a desire for success in this world.

A child is greatly influenced by example. Emphasis should be placed on homework.

Parents should meet with and work closely with teachers. If possible, families should do volunteer work at school.

The list can go on and on.
