While we share columnist Steve Penn’s enthusiasm about artifacts of Claude “Fiddler” Williams on display at the Smithsonian (4/4, Local, “KC’s jazz goes to Washington”), Mr. Penn’s readers may also be interested to learn that the bulk of materials related to Claude’s professional life were recently donated by Mrs. Williams to the LaBudde Special Collections Department of the UMKC University Libraries.
The materials include photographs, contracts, correspondence and promotional items documenting Claude’s long and successful career. In addition, numerous video and audio tapes of live performances by Claude over the years were part of the donation and are housed in the Marr Sound Archives at the Library.
More information about the collection and accessing these materials can be found at http://library.umkc.edu/spec-col-home or by calling 816-235-1532.
